The Night of Museums is an international event that takes place annually in 42 European countries. Nearly 2,000 museums “do not sleep” once a year, opening their doors to all who are interested in seeing them in an unusual time of day.
On 20th of May St. Petersburg museums, big and small, will open their doors to visitors as usual but then remain open until late at night, providing special program of one-day exhibitions, concerts, performances, themed tours, workshops and historical reconstructions.
This year in Russia the night of museums will be dedicated to the themes of ecology in Russia and the Russian revolution of 1917.
You can enjoy these amazing activities from 6 p.m. on May 20th till 6 a.m. on May 21st. All participating museums accept one common entrance pass which grants access to all their exhibits and events. Last year around 99 museums in the city participated in the night of museums and they were visited by more than 80 thousand people.
The long Night of Museums 2017 is expected to be even more interesting and to provide an even greater variety in events as organizers update and optimize their programs to impress their guests and showcase Russian history and the cultural spirit of St.Petersburg. For example the bicycle museum will give their visitors the opportunity to ride old fashioned bicycles similar to the one which Tsciolkovsky, the father of Russian rocketry owned. The Botanical gardens will host an exhibition of trees which grew on our planet many centuries ago. The Museum of military medecine will tell their guests about how medical procedures are conducted in space and the Pele pharmacy will show how apothecaries functioned in 18th and 19th centuries.
